I'll be Rocking a Wiggle Wagon!

This is my new ride. Preeeety Sweet!
Its called a Wiggle Wagon or a Rock Truck.
I'll be working 20 days on, 8 off.
They'll fly me home every 20 days on a charter flight.
5 hours from FMM to Halifax. Hot meal served during the trip,
we touch down in Thunder Bay for 20 minutes to refuel.
The company is Thompson Brothers.
The guy is from Stratford, PEI and makes sure any Easterner
who comes his way is given a job.
He said about 90% of the crew is from the East Coast.
I'll be living in the Executive Suites in camp.
That means I don't share a bathroom with anyone, and i THINK it means
I don't have to empty out my room every rotation.
I don't care about those extra perks. I just wanted to drive a wagon and get
flights home. So this has gone beyond anything I 'required'.
I am so thankful for this job and appreciate all the prayers and support from all of you.
I'm going to miss Mom and Dad, Barry, Iris and kiddos!
I'm so glad I got to hang out in FMM for the two weeks that I did.
It was fun getting to know the city and bombing around in the Wave!

Greasy Lift Kits

This one has a strut system under it to keep it together!

This one isn't bad, in fact, it might be the one Adam wants.
Maybe Santa will come through for him this year ...

OMGoodness! There are so many crazy lifted trucks that I hardly even notice anymore.

Its so bad here that there are passing bylaws on height, tinted front passenger windows and custom headlights. I was sitting in traffic in the Wave the other night and all I could see was grill in my window. I think I need a buggy whip!!

I think its great though. I love trucks and anything diesel, but seriously, some of these guys have too much money and imagination !

Welcome to the Wild West !!

Someone lives here all year round

This is in a campground where there are many 5th wheels and quite expensive travel trailer, then there are some poor souls who have to live like this!

Buggy Whips

These antennas you'll see all the time here on trucks and vans are called buggy whips and have to be up with and amber light lit when travelling within the work sites.

They are supposed to be tied down when not on site ... guess this guy forgot.

Mom's Rockin Baby Phat

Who says theres no fashion industry here ... ?
Its her work uniform. The top is black with hot pink BP symbols.

A Visit to the Local Fire Department

On our way to the park the other night, we stopped by the fire station.
Or the Fia Apartment as himself calls it.
The staff were so accommodating. I was so impressed with them.
They gave him a tour of both trucks, the pumper and rescue truck.
H kept asking "wheres the water"? He couldn't understand why he couldn't see it.
He is so very very cute.

So happy to be in the 'fiatruck'

A big wave for Auntie Lelann

Checking out the heat sensor

He got to try the suit on

Complete with helmet

Check out the dimples

I love this picture. He's so proud of his 'treat bag'

Running towards me

Love him

Look at his little walk. I just love it. Its so determined !

OH! He spots his neighbour, Taneisha, and takes off running, yelling her name.

Telling with great enthusiasm, his recent adventure.
She is such a sweet girl. Look how intently she is listening.

His little fireman badge

Showing off his loot. The fireman told him he was getting a treat bag, so when he
opened it and there was no candy he yelled "Theres no treats in here".

Trucks Move My Brain

Another Handley quote:

We went for a walk tonight and he was being quiet so I asked him:

'What are you thinking about"?

H: I not sinkin'

Me: Your brain isn't thinking anything?

H: No, my brain is moving

Me: What moves your brain?

H: Trucks.

True that.

Monsters Live in Dreams

Thats what Handley just told me when I asked him if he had good dreams last night.
He said "no, I just closed my eyes and went to sleep and that way I don't have dreams"
I said "sometimes dreams are fun though"
And thats when he told me that monsters live in dreams, and thats why dreams are bad.
I am surrounded by electronic equipment and couldn't reach him to squeeze his sweet little being.
Lucky for him, I guess.

I'm Here!

Hey - coming to you from Northern Alberta!
I arrived on Saturday afternoon to 21 degree weather!
(though I'm now being blamed for bringing in the cold rain! :)
The trip was uneventful.
I flew WestJet. Amazing.
The flight attendants were so friendly and accommodating.
I was in row 18 with a mom and her 13 month old, and another gentleman.
And the FA came by and asked if I would be more comfortable in the first row.
Didn't take me too long to unfasten my seatbelt and get my butt up there. (as it was a 5 hour flight)
So it was nice to have on-demand service, lots of leg room and noone going to the bathroom, saying "excuse me ... "
Leaving Halifax was ha-rd. I knew I'd be sad saying goodbye to Adam, but it was brutal.
I was trying to be 'strong', but we got in the truck in the Bay at 6 am (still dark) and we weren't down the road 2 minutes and I was breaking down.
Seriously the hardest thing I've had to do in a really long time.
In Calgary waiting for my connection to Fort Mac, the announcement came over the loudspeaker "Passengers travelling on flight 242 to Halifax, please proceed to Gate 49"
I must admit, I considered it.
But I arrived safely, without incident and was greeted by Mom and Dad.

The city isn't as bad as people said it was. It's actually kind of pretty. It reminds me of Smithers , BC.
I had the WalMart experience. The Save On Foods trip and a jaunt to the mall.
And I had the distinct priviledge of consuming, now two, of Iris' mouth watering, savoury meals.
Absolutely to die for.

Marilu and Handley are quite the pair. Handley calls me Auntie Le-lan, and sometimes Auntie Lashley. (i assume confusing both Ashley and I) and he is cute beyond words. His dimples and crazy head of curls puts him on high alert for random attacks and smothering kisses.
I haven't seen much of Barry. He's a night shift guy, so he sleeps most of the day.

I met with a guy from Halifax (we have various mutual friends) last night who gave me the ins and outs of Fort Mac and the camps. I am having dinner with Cora tonight. She lives up the street. I had brunch with a girl I knew in Halifax who is from here (and building a gorgeous house outside of town).

I am really lonesome and so nervous about getting work. (I know, ridiculous) But its the unknown and quite frankly, I am overwhelmed. But here I am and have to get buck up and just get it done.

Later .....
